IAM C.R.E.S.T. employs vocational rehabilitation counselors (VRCs) located in the Puget Sound in Washington state, Portland, Oregon, and Wichita, Kansas.
In WA, OR, and KS, the counselors are sponsored by IAM/Boeing Joint Programs, founded in 1991 by the IAM and Boeing. There are two additional C.R.E.S.T. counselors in Wichita working in cooperation with Spirit Aerospace. These are close collaborative teams operating to assist employees in staying at work and returning to work following an injury or illness.
The counselors work closely with the local union representatives, disability management teams, medical clinics and providers, internal workers' compensation representatives, and insurance company staff. In WA, the counselors also support the Boeing industrial athlete program, which functions as a preventive, pre-injury program, and on-site work hardening for return-to-work following an injury.
The counselors all meet their appropriate state certifying requirements, as well as hold national certifications in the fields of rehabilitation counseling and disability management. They regularly support their partners by conducting job analyses, participating in interactive discussions and early intervention with employees, light duty accommodation assistance, case management, ergonomic assistance, and job modifications. |
